ABOUT ME
From his first day in Kindergarten at Hope Elementary through graduation at CHS...our older son "rubbed shoulders" with friends and teachers who encouraged him to make a positive impact on the world.
My husband Glenn and I are blessed to have lived in beautiful Carlsbad for 33 years. We raised our family here and there is no other place we would rather call "home." I am a staunch supporter of public education and am proud of my 30-year association with the Carlsbad Unified School District as well as other community and professional organizations.
Glenn helped coach our sons' sports teams, he served on our HOA Board for several years, and together we volunteered with a program to prepare adults for college success. I served as a Scoutmaster, coordinated the "Carols of Peace" inter-faith concerts, and volunteered in our sons' classrooms, including teaching music, Jr. Great Books, and Great Works of Art. I served as PTA president at Hope Elementary and Valley Middle School and participated on the District Strategic Planning Committee, the Language Arts Vertical Team, District GATE committee and the District Music Committee. I trained more than 100 CUSD administrators and teachers in "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" and became the Parent/Superintendent Advisory Council (P/SAC) Board representative. I organized fundraisers for the CHS band program and assisted at swim meets and band competitions.
When asked by then-Superintendent Cheryl Ernst, I became even more invested in the community when I agreed to I co-chair the successful Prop B Campaign that provided funds to build the two-story classroom at Carlsbad High School and the new gym, rebuild Jefferson Elementary School, and upgrade electrical and plumbing at the other older schools.
A vacancy occurred on the CUSD Board of Trustees in 2000 and several community members urged me to apply. I did and was appointed by the Board from a long list of applicants; I am very honored that Carlsbad voters agreed with the Board's choice and allowed me to continue serving the community by selecting me through the five subsequent election cycles.

My educational background includes a Master's Degree in Business Education with minors in Guidance & Counseling and Organizational Behavior. I taught part-time at Grossmont College shortly after graduation and worked full-time in marketing in various industries before taking a hiatus from paid work to spend more time at home with our children. For the past 12 years I've been the Director of Marketing & Operations for a Registered Investment Advisor.
Gardening has long been a favorite interest of mine and during the spring and summer we grow much of our own food and are pleased to share our bounty with friends and neighbors. Glenn is a Harley enthusiast and we take frequent rides, mostly around Carlsbad. However, I have ventured as far as Yosemite and Banff, Canada, which proved to be unforgettable experiences.
The K-12 experience for our younger son was filled with music, friends, and caring teachers who made such a difference in the lives of students!
As rewarding as it is to work in the garden and enjoy nature from the back of a motorcycle, nothing compares with the joy that comes from spending time with our grandson...which leads me to share my favorite conversation ever:
Me: Shall we play "Red Rover" tonight?
My grandson: Yes. You and I are one team and Mom and Dad are the other. It will be the kids against the adults.
